The Jamaica Racing Commission wishes to remind all Owners and Trainers of the provisions of Rule 109 (1) of the Jamaica Racing Commission Rules, 1977, regarding the importation of racing stock.

Rule 109 (1) provides that:

Where there is a need for additional racing stock, the Commission may permit the importation of no more than ten (10) geldings, which must be no older than four (4) years of age upon arrival, for racing during a designated calendar year.

In addition, all prospective owners seeking to import a horse under this provision are required to obtain prior special approval from the Board of Commissioners before making any arrangements for importation.

Owners and Trainers are therefore advised that:

• No imported gelding will be considered eligible under Rule 109 (1) unless the Board of Commissioners has granted prior special approval.
• Any gelding imported under this provision must not exceed four (4) years of age at the time of arrival in Jamaica.
• The Commission will authorize the importation of a maximum of ten (10) eligible geldings in any designated calendar year, where the need for additional racing stock has been determined.

Failure to comply with the requirements of Rule 109 (1) shall result in the horse being deemed ineligible to race.

The Commission appreciates your cooperation and encourages all interested parties to contact the Stewards’ Department should further clarification be required before initiating the importation process.
