Hall Of Fame History
The Jamaica Racing Commission takes great pleasure in announcing the institution
of a Hall of Fame of Thoroughbred Racing in Jamaica in which honour will be given
to persons, institutions, racehorses, stallions and broodmares who have either retired
from racing or have served racing in Jamaica for over 25 years and whose outstanding
service have enriched the sport of horse racing in their time and inspired generations
afterwards.
Awards will be determined by the Hall of Fame Trust, comprising members of the Commission,
representatives of the media and persons interested in horse racing, and will be
announced annually.
Awards in the inaugural year 1980 will not be restricted in number as selections
will span the entire recorded history of horse racing in Jamaica. These will be
announced at a Pre-Derby-Day Luncheon being hosted by the Commission at the Terra
Nova Hotel on Friday, 4th July, 1980, and will be supplemented in later years by
Awards determined by the Hall of Fame Trust, as constituted at the time in their
absolute discretion, but always subject to and in conformity with the Guidelines
of Eligibility for Awards, as prescribed in the Trust Deed.
For the purposes of the Ceremony of Inauguration of the Hall of Fame, the names
and brief citations of the Persons and Horses initially selected will be recorded.
These presentations will, however, be supplemented by more detailed citations relating
to each award and each such citation will appear on the wall of the HALL OF FAME
inscribed under Photographs, painting or other medium in a style and manner best
designed to do honour to the Awardees and their spectacular and unique contributions
to Horseracing in Jamaica in their time.
Hon. Edward Seaga , Sir John Mordecai, Keith Brent-Harris (Commissioner)
